The Award in First Aid at Work at SCQF level 6 will develop knowledge and skills required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations.

Unit 1 covers the roles and responsibilities of the first-aider, assessing an incident and providing first aid in the following situations:

• an unresponsive casualty
• someone who is choking
• someone with external bleeding
• someone in shock
• minor injuries

Unit 2 includes conducting a secondary survey and providing first aid in the following situations:

• suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
• suspected head and spinal injuries
• suspected chest injuries
• burns and scalds
• eye injury
• sudden poisoning
• anaphylaxis
• suspected major illness

This is a regulated qualification, which is recognised nationally.
